New Year honours for Audrey

1st meet of the year and a good start for Audrey winning her age group at the Shrewsbury open Meet held on 7th January, getting the most points in 45-49yrs age group with 4 golds and 1 silver, while the rest of us were still eating up the chocolate.

The British Gas National Masters Shortcourse Meet

The British Gas National Masters Shortcourse Meet held in Sheffield every year attracts many swimmers from all over the British Isles held on the last weekend of October.
Spondon Masters had 3 swimmers 3 gold medals 1 silver and 2 British records.
Karen Jennings started the 1st session with the 1500m freestyle and with a good swim got a silver medal.
Jean Hiatt also swam the 1500m event and swam to a good 4th place
Jenny Merritt swimming the breastroke events won all the races and broke her own British record in the 100m and 200m

Oldies Delux

The luxembourg International long course meet saw many teams of swimmers from all over Europe competing for trophies at this annual gala held 14-16th October.
Karen Jennings set herself a gruelling task to swim the 1500m , 800m 400m 200m 100m and 50m freestyle all in one weekend, striking gold in all the events but 50m where she came a good 2nd.
Jenny Merritt swimming the breaststroke events and 100m freestyle made it made it 4 more golds and Audrey Watson increased the tally of medals by a gold in the 100m freestyle and bronze in the 50 , 200m freestyle and the 50m fly to make 11 gold 3 bronze and 1 silver medal all told not bad for a 3 girl team.

September 25th the British Gas Northeast Champs held in Durham

Jean Hiatt and Jenny Merritt both swimming in the over 60 age group came away with 4 gold and 3 silver medals between them.
Jenny getting gold medals in the 50,100,200, breastsroke and 50m freestyle, and Jean a silver in the 400m 200m and 100m freestyle events.

Inverclyde Masters Meet - September 9th - 10th

Karen Jennings won 3 gold in the 800m 200m and 100m freestyle events.
Jenny Merritt won 3 golds in the 50m 100m breast stroke and 100m freestyle.
Audrey Watson -Won silver in the 50m freestyle and 3 bronze in the 50m fly, 100 and 200m freestyle.

Audrey - Gold in 100m I. Medley, 50m Fly, 100m Free & Silver in 200m free, and 50m free
Jenny - Gold in 100m I.M. , 50m, 100m, 200m breast stroke and because broke the British Record in 50m breast got a trophy for the best lady swimmer it was only by .01secs how close is that ???

Results from Great Britain Masters

Three members competed at the Great Britain Masters 50m at Leeds on June 17-19th.
Karen Jennings 50-54 Jenny Merritt 60-65 Audrey Watson 45-49
Karen won the 1500 free
Jenny won the 50, 100 and 200m breast British record in the 100 and 200
Audrey 50, 100 and 200 free and 50m fly 3 x7th places and 1 10 th place

Nigel Finishes 9th in National Mountain Bike Series

Nigel put all his leg and upper body strength from his swimming training into good use competing in the Masters Category of The National Series mountain biking. The category is one level down from the professional/elite class. Nigel competed in two events finishing ninth in both. He is now looking to progress throughout the rest of the season, with help from his swimming training to see him through the races that last 1hour 45mins.

Jenny breaks two British Records at the Midland District Masters

Championships

May saw the annual "Midlands Districts" championships at Leamington Spa. Jenny and Karen both had great results:

Karen taking gold in the 400 metres freestyle (the longest event at this competition)

Jenny meanwhile took gold in the 50/100 and 200 metre breastroke events....... BREAKING THE BRITISH RECORDS FOR BOTH THE 100 AND 200 METRE EVENTS!!

Jenny breaks her own British Record in Italy

The following weekend our intrepid pair flew off to a meet near Venice in Italy. After some confusion over the requirements for entering, Karen was not allowed to swim the 800 metres freestyle but did get a gold in the 400 metres.

Jenny won both of her events - the 50 and 200 metre breaststroke - BREAKING HER OWN BRITISH RECORD IN THE 200M!!

Karen Wins Best Overseas Female Swimmer Of The Meet

For the second year running Karen Jennings won the overseas female swimmer of the meet for her Gold medal wins in the 1500, 800, and 200 metres freestyle, with silver in the 400 and 100 freestyle, at the Limerick Open Meet held at the University of Limerick's 50 metre pool on 5th March 2011.

Team mates Audrey Watson and Jenny Merritt also won gold in their age groups.

Audrey winning gold in the 50 metres Butterfly and Silver in the 50,100 and 200 metres Freestyle events.

Jenny winning Gold in the 50 metres butterfly and 50,100 metres Breaststroke.

KAREN ON TOP WITH 3 GOLDS AND A NEW RECORD IN CARDIFF

Spondon Masters returned from the Great Britain Masters in Cardiff with a bagful of medals. Karen Jennings was in great form in the 50-54 age group, claiming a British record on her way to victory in the 1500m freestyle. She also grabbed Gold in the 800m and 400m freestyle events. Berry Wilson took 2 golds in the 200m Individual medley and 200m Backstroke in the 45-49 age group, while Jenny Merritt was a triple Silver medalist in the breastroke events 55-59 age group. Jean Hiatt won a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle 60-64 age group.

The same weekend Nicole Walters finished 3rd in the Liverpool Triathalon in the Elite age group category. Her 1500m swim she completed in under 20 mins, a great swim.

KAREN BREAKS HER OWN RECORD

Karen Jennings breaks her own 800m record on the way to another British record in the 1500m freestyle at the National Masters Swimming Championships held in Sheffield on the 24th October, swimming in the 50yrs age group recording a time of 20m 30.15 sec Congratulations a great swim.

Jenny Merritt also swimming at the event won 3 gold medals in the 55yrs age group in the 50, 100, and 200m breastroke events.

KAREN SWIMS A BRITISH RECORD ON SWISS TRIP

Karen Jennings was in great form at the Swiss Open Masters in Liestal September 27th -28th at this two day event she dominated the 50yr age group freestyle events and broke the British record in the 800m freestyle, she also won the 50m 100m and 200m , she was one of 5 Spondon Masters who between them won 16 gold and 6 silver medals at this meet.

Jean Hiatt in the 60yrs age group won all of her races in freestyle events, 50m 100m 200m 400m and 800m , a clean sweep.

Berry Wilson in the 45yrs age group won the 200 and 100m Individual Medley also 50m backstroke. In the 100 and 200m backstroke she came second.

Audrey Watson also in the 45 yr age group won the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly and second in the 50 and 200m freestyle.

Jenny Merritt in the 55 yr age group won 100 and 200m breaststroke, second in the 50m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.
